McLaren Construction Midlands and North has completed the first phase of a landmark £100 million student accommodation scheme in Coventry, located next to the University of Warwick.
The project, developed by Topland Group and McLaren Property, has delivered 572 beds for the upcoming 2025/26 academic year. The second phase is expected to be completed by spring 2026.
The new development, named iQ Longwood Place, will provide a total of 1,078 high-quality student bedrooms and 131 co-living rooms. The site, which replaced outdated office buildings and a multi-storey car park, features extensive community, retail, and leisure spaces. These include an arcade, lounge, karaoke room, study spaces, and a gym.
The project was designed with sustainability as a core focus and has achieved a BREEAM Excellent rating. This is an assessment score that is given to buildings that have achieved a high standard of sustainability, with the Excellent rating placing the development in the top 10% of new non-domestic buildings in the UK. McLaren Construction followed best environmental practices throughout the construction process, including recycling demolition materials and using sustainable waste management.
Gary Cramp, Managing Director of McLaren Construction Midlands and North, said it has been a pleasure to see the project take shape and that it is a transformative scheme for Coventry and the student population of the University of Warwick.
