Kier has been appointed by Natural Resources Wales (NRW) to carry out vital repair work on a critical flood asset near Newport, safeguarding the local community as well as surrounding wetland and intertidal habitats.

The £620,000 project, awarded through the Pagabo Civil Engineering & Infrastructure framework, will be delivered by Kier's Natural Resources, Nuclear & Networks business division and is scheduled to begin in Summer 2025.

The work will focus on stabilising the banks downstream of the Goldcliff Fishers Gout Tidal Outfall structure in the Caldicot Level. This will help reduce erosion and prevent further undermining of the sea defences in the Severn Estuary. A temporary solution previously in place to stabilise the retaining walls will be replaced, alongside improvements to fish passage and the installation of winches to enhance operational safety.
