Havering Council and Wates Residential have marked the start of phase two of their 12 Estates Regeneration Programme with a councillors' site visit to Chippenham Road in Harold Hill.

The demolition of empty buildings at the site has begun, paving the way for 138 new one- to four-bedroom homes. The development will also feature shared green spaces including community gardens, play areas, and allotments, aimed at encouraging community engagement and promoting wellbeing.

Demolition work will be carried out in two phases and is expected to take around 14 weeks to complete.

The scheme is part of a major Joint Venture between Havering Council and Wates Residential to regenerate 12 council estates and deliver 3,500 new homes across the borough. Once completed, the project will double the number of council-rented and affordable properties available locally, making it one of London's largest social housing regeneration initiatives.

Councillor Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council, said: "There is an air of excitement as we gradually see the area being transformed to provide much-needed affordable homes, in a way that will help bring neighbours together and support their wellbeing.

"The project will also serve as part of the Harold Hill masterplan, which will ensure the right type of regeneration takes place and will help to improve the wider Harold Hill area for residents, businesses and visitors for future generations."
