Bridgewater Triangle Bridge Lifted Into Place

A new pedestrian and cycle bridge has been successfully lifted into position in east London, marking a major milestone for the redevelopment of the Bridgewater Triangle site.

The Bridgewater Triangle Bridge, designed by award-winning architects William Matthews Associates, was installed on 1 August 2025 through a carefully coordinated marine operation. The new structure will connect the Bridgewater Triangle site with Pudding Mill Allotments, Pudding Mill Lane DLR station, and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, strengthening links across the fast-growing area.

The lift-in was delivered by engineering specialist Kilnbridge, which managed the demolition of the site’s original 1930s bridge, as well as the full steel fabrication, marine logistics, installation, and final assembly. The operation required the bridge to be floated into position on pontoons due to restricted crane access, showcasing the company's technical expertise in complex infrastructure delivery.

Kilnbridge was initially brought on under a Pre-Construction Services Agreement to provide buildability advice and planning support. Its role later expanded to cover the full scope of works, drawing on in-house teams to devise innovative lifting systems and prefabricated modules while working within strict programme constraints.

"Delivering the Bridgewater Triangle Bridge has been a true test of technical precision and teamwork," said Kilnbridge CEO Owen Dannatt. "This project exemplifies how early collaboration, detailed planning, and multidisciplinary expertise can come together to overcome complex constraints and deliver an iconic piece of infrastructure for east London."

The bridge will improve pedestrian and cycle access, encourage sustainable travel, and support future development on the site, which is being delivered by the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) and Ballymore.
