G F Tomlinson has announced the successful completion of phase one of the multi-million-pound redevelopment of the former Sutton-on-Sea Colonnade and Pleasure Gardens.

The milestone was celebrated with a time capsule burial ceremony involving staff and over 100 pupils from Sutton-on-Sea Community Primary School.

Delivered in partnership with East Lindsey District Council, CPMG Architects, and Alan Wood Associates through the Pagabo Medium Works framework, the project marks a major step in transforming the beloved coastal landmark. The time capsule contains letters from pupils to their future selves, reflections on lockdown, predictions for future inventions, a field recorder discussing themes like AI and climate change, school memorabilia, photos, and more, symbolising a new beginning for the site.

The redevelopment includes a state-of-the-art pavilion offering lettable space designed for a sea-view café or restaurant, alongside a modern exhibition area. Enhancements to the former Pleasure Gardens provide new recreational and community spaces and a base for 15 new beach huts supplied by the council.

A newly constructed link bridge now connects the promenade to the Seaview Colonnade, improving public access and enhancing the visitor experience. Key existing features such as the refurbished paddling pool, tennis court, and anchor water feature have been retained.

The project, part of the Mablethorpe Connected Coast Town Deal, received £4.2 million in government funding with additional investment from East Lindsey District Council. Designed with sustainability and longevity in mind, the redevelopment aims to secure the colonnade’s role as a key coastal attraction for years to come.
