Construction of the new Seaview Colonnade in Sutton-on-Sea has been completed, marking a major milestone in East Lindsey District Council’s (ELDC) east coast regeneration plans.

Designed by architectural practice CPMG and built by contractor G F Tomlinson, the landmark pavilion replaces the traditional colonnade with a contemporary facility offering modern amenities. The development includes dining areas, cultural and social spaces, accessible WCs, and changing facilities, aiming to enhance quality of life for residents and attract visitors to the coastal town.

Tom Rigley, associate at CPMG, said: "Through close collaboration with ELDC and the project team, we are pleased to have successfully contributed to the east coast regeneration programme in Sutton-on-Sea. The Seaview Colonnade development supports the local council's vision for the area’s future, while satisfying Environmental Agency requirements.

"The design addresses the level changes between town and promenade frontages and provides internal spaces with striking 360-degree views. Material choices create an elegant landmark blending contemporary design and longevity given its exposed location, utilising a robust palette of materials including an aluminum roof, facing blockwork and curtain walling addressing the challenges posed by high winds and salt spray."

Richard Hodgson, project sponsor and assistant director – strategic projects for South & East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership, said: "A huge amount of work has gone into ensuring that we are able to offer the best possible facilities and value for the public, while respecting and recognising the environment, community spirit and heritage that matter so much in the local area.

"Throughout the construction programme, our team worked closely with all project partners to ensure the new facilities were delivered to the highest quality of workmanship and remain suitable for the unique, scenic coastal surroundings. It’s great to have the Colonnade open to allow residents and visitors to enjoy the space and its beautiful views of the beach and sea."

The £4.2 million scheme was supported by the Mablethorpe Connected Coast Town Deal, with remaining costs funded by ELDC.

The project team also included Alan Wood Associates, CPW, Influence and Brook and Mayo, with procurement managed through the Medium Works Framework by Pagabo on behalf of The Education Alliance.
