G F Tomlinson Celebrates Over 600 Years Of Collective Service

G F Tomlinson has honoured 20 of its longest-serving employees at a special Long Service Awards ceremony, celebrating more than 600 years of collective service and commitment across the business.

The event took place at the company's head office in Derby and recognised team members from a wide range of departments, including Site Operations, Site Management, Business Development, Health and Safety, Accounts, and the company's leadership. Honourees had reached service milestones ranging from 25 to 38 years.

Group Chairman Andy Sewards hosted the ceremony, delivering a heartfelt speech to both the award recipients and attending colleagues. A company lunch followed, giving staff an opportunity to celebrate the occasion together. Each recipient received an engraved commemorative award as a token of appreciation.

Among those recognised were Paul Thornewill, senior contracts manager, who marked 38 years of service; Tony Lamb and Robert McDonald, bricklayer and groundworker respectively, each with 37 years; Stephen Parker, director and company secretary, with 36 years; and Matt Smith, site manager, celebrating 34 years at the company.

Robert McDonald, who retired in March 2025, was recognised not only for his own long-standing contribution but also for inspiring the next generation. His son, Robert McDonald Junior, has since joined the company.

Group Chairman Andy Sewards praised the dedication of the awardees, stated: "At G F Tomlinson, our people are our greatest asset. Celebrating long service is not just about the number of years, but the impact each individual has made to the company over time. The experience, loyalty and commitment shown by our team is what drives our continued success, and it’s a privilege to recognise and thank them for their invaluable contribution."

Les Needham, head of business development, who himself marked 26 years of service, added: "It's a real testament to the culture and values of G F Tomlinson that so many of us have built our careers here. There's always been opportunity, respect, and a genuine sense of team spirit."
