Morgan Sindall Begins Work On Ardrossan Community Campus

Work is now underway on the much-anticipated Ardrossan Community Campus, with contractors Morgan Sindall Construction beginning the main construction phase.

This development represents the first and a key phase of the Ardrossan Coastal Quarter plans, aiming to completely regenerate a previously vacant and derelict site in one of North Ayrshire's most deprived communities.

The new campus will be a state-of-the-art facility, incorporating secondary and primary schools, a public library, and a swimming pool. The broader vision for the site includes new housing and commercial uses, bringing substantial investment to the area. Prior to construction, extensive remediation and enabling works were carried out by Sanctus Ltd and RJ McLeod respectively. These works included treating soil and groundwater to meet stringent UK Government Environmental Guidelines, installing a revetment for coastal protection, creating a new spine road and coastal path, and earth movement to prepare the site.

Councillor Tony Gurney, Cabinet Member for Green Environment and Economy, expressed his enthusiasm: "It's great to see Morgan Sindall on site and the project moving forward. This is a huge investment into the future of our young people and wider community. Not only are we creating a Community Campus, but also a range of other regeneration projects which will transform this derelict site and provide a major boost for the whole area."

Councillor Shaun Macaulay, Cabinet Member for Education and Young People, added: "It is going to be an incredible facility for our young people and we are all very excited to be at this stage." The shared community facilities will also feature a learning hub, indoor sports facilities including a sports hall, gymnasium, dance studio, and fitness studio, as well as outdoor sports pitches and a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA). Outdoor learning landscapes, recreational spaces, and associated parking will also be included.

Stuart Parker, managing director at Morgan Sindall Construction Scotland, highlighted the significance of the project: "Starting construction on the Ardrossan Community Campus marks a significant milestone for the area. The comprehensive facilities we're creating... will provide fantastic opportunities for local families and help revitalise the community." He noted that the project is being delivered with North Ayrshire Council through the SCAPE Scotland framework. The new campus is expected to be complete by Autumn 2027.
