Galliford Try's Building North East and Yorkshire division has successfully handed over the newly built Great Park Academy, a 1,200-place secondary school in Newcastle Great Park.
Delivered on behalf of the Department for Education, the state-of-the-art facility will officially open its doors in September 2025, welcoming students who have been taught in temporary accommodation at the nearby Gosforth Academy since 2021. The new academy will be operated by the Gosforth Group Multi Academy Trust.
Spanning three storeys, the modern school features a range of flexible and inspiring teaching spaces, including dedicated music, drama, art, and sports facilities, a learning resource centre, and a suite of specialist spaces for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
The development also includes significant improvements to the external environment, with newly created soft and hard landscaping, a multi-use games area, outdoor learning zones, and a dedicated play area, all designed to enhance student wellbeing and engagement.
During construction, over 85% of the project work was awarded to SMEs, demonstrating Galliford Try's strong commitment to supporting the local supply chain. The project also received a perfect 45/45 score on its most recent Considerate Constructors Scheme inspection, reflecting the team's exemplary standards in site management, community engagement, and environmental responsibility.
