Persimmon Homes Donates 10,000 Bricks To Support Construction Training

Two campuses of Mid Kent College have received a major boost to their construction training programmes thanks to a donation of 10,000 bricks from Persimmon Homes South East.

The donation, which is enough to build a three-bedroom home, was made following a request from Naushabah Khan, MP for Gillingham and Rainham, who has been a strong advocate for supporting young people entering the construction industry. The bricks, supplied by Persimmon’s own Brickworks factory, have been split between the college’s Medway and Maidstone campuses.

Naushabah Khan, MP for Gillingham and Rainham, said: "It is important we start to build that new skills pipeline of construction workers, including bricklayers, to deliver the homes this Government is determined to build.

"I am delighted to be here with Persimmon and see how they are helping to provide the students here in Gillingham and Rainham with the tools that they need to be the house builders of the future."

The initiative is part of Persimmon Homes South East’s commitment to supporting education and skills development in its local communities. Gavin Nicholson, Contracts Manager at Persimmon, visited the Medway campus with the MP to see how the materials will be used in hands-on training.

"The students and apprentices here are learning the skills they need for successful careers in bricklaying and they show a great deal of talent," said Nicholson.

"We are delighted to support the college with this donation and know that these bricks will be used to teach the next generation of construction workers."
