Enabling Works Begin For New Balmuildy Primary School In Bishopbriggs

Construction News Image
While pupils and staff enjoy their summer break, Balmuildy Primary School is preparing for a major transformation, as enabling works get underway ahead of construction starting on the new school building in August.

The early works are being carried out over the quieter summer period to minimise disruption to the school and the surrounding community. Main contractor Morgan Sindall Construction will begin work in mid-July, with completion expected before the school reopens in mid-August.

Initial enabling activities will include the diversion of telecoms infrastructure, the formation of a new construction access off Stirling Drive, and the installation of new drainage connections to the south-west of the site. Temporary Heras fencing and tarmac repairs will also be carried out to support the new access point.

However, the drainage works will lead to temporary road closures and traffic controls. Stirling Drive will be closed between Southesk Avenue and Tofthill Avenue from 6am on Monday 21 July until 6pm on Friday 25 July. Signposted diversions will be in place, and access to local properties will be managed safely where possible. From late July, temporary three-way traffic lights will operate, with all works due to conclude by 10 August 2025.

The new school building is scheduled to open in spring 2027, with the existing structure to be demolished shortly thereafter.

Stuart Parker, Managing Director of Morgan Sindall Construction Scotland, commented: "It's great to once again work with hub West Scotland and East Dunbartonshire Council to deliver this new educational facility. At Morgan Sindall, we understand that schools are more than just buildings – they're the foundation where future generations will learn, grow, and discover their potential, so it's always a real privilege to create a lasting legacy that will serve the community for decades to come.

"From laying the first brick to handing over the building, we're committed to delivering excellence in every aspect of this project and it's great that enabling works are getting underway. We'll be engaging with the local community throughout the project to help bring them on the journey with us – we really want to add as much value as we can to the area."

The project is being delivered in partnership with hub West Scotland.
