Demolition Begins To Make Way For Eston Precinct Redevelopment

Work has officially started on preparing Eston Precinct for demolition, marking the first step in a major regeneration project led by Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council.

Esh Construction has been appointed to deliver the scheme, which will begin with the safe removal of asbestos and the soft strip of existing buildings before full demolition. The works pave the way for the construction of seven new retail units and a new outdoor public space.

The first phase will deliver 14,600 square feet of high-quality retail facilities, designed to enhance the shopping experience for residents and visitors. Alongside the new units, the area will benefit from public realm improvements including paving, trees, benches, lighting, and upgraded power infrastructure to support events and markets.

"We are proud to be delivering the first phase of Eston Precinct and playing our part in this important regeneration project for the area," said Andy Radcliffe, Chief Executive at Esh Construction. "As a local contractor, we are committed to maximising the social and economic benefits throughout the scheme by procuring locally, delivering award-winning school engagement initiatives, and supporting charitable and voluntary initiatives within the community."

During a public consultation last month, it was confirmed that the development will retain the name 'Eston Precinct'.

Phase one of the redevelopment is due for completion by summer 2026, with funding provided by the Government and Tees Valley Combined Authority.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: "Eston Precinct has been in dire need of improvement for years so it’s great to see demolition work now getting underway. While there'll be memories left behind, the precinct will be getting a much-needed modern makeover – and I’m looking forward to seeing work finished next year."

Esh will work in partnership with Identity Consult, Space, and Fairhurst to deliver the scheme.
