Pinewood Group has submitted a major planning application to Buckinghamshire Council for the development of a state-of-the-art data centre on its Pinewood South site.

The proposed facility, with an estimated construction cost exceeding £1 billion, includes a 55,030 square metre data centre, alongside a 60-acre nature reserve and a six-acre community garden and learning space.

The project represents a significant investment in national infrastructure. In 2024, the UK Government designated data centres as Critical National Infrastructure, highlighting their importance in strategically vital areas. The Pinewood South site lies within the Slough Availability Zone, one such priority location.

David Conway, CEO of Pinewood Group, said: "Our proposed plan for a data centre on the land to the South of Pinewood Studios is in alignment with the critical infrastructure needs identified by the Government. The significant investment will bring jobs and additional benefits to the local community with the delivery of a nature reserve, community gardens and learning space."

The planning application is expected to be determined by the end of 2025. If approved, Pinewood will submit a detailed reserved matters application to advance the project.
