Willmott Dixon has been appointed by Queen Mary University of London to lead a £48.8 million redevelopment of its School of Business and Management in Tower Hamlets.
The project will see the construction of a new 6,700m², seven-storey building that will replace the current outdated facility. Scheduled for completion in 2027, the new development will offer a range of high-quality, flexible teaching and learning spaces designed to support diverse educational needs. It will serve as a dedicated home for the School of Business and Management, enhancing the university’s capacity to deliver a world-class learning environment.
Designed by Nicholas Hare Architects, the redevelopment will also include improvements to the surrounding public realm, with landscaped terraces and green spaces aimed at enriching the campus experience for students, staff and the local community.
The contract marks Willmott Dixon's second major scheme with Queen Mary University of London in recent years. In 2024, the contractor was selected to enlarge the Informatics and Technology Learning building in Bethnal Green. That project involves a full retrofit and two-storey extension to increase capacity and establish a centre of excellence for computer science education.
Together, these developments represent significant investment in the future of the university, which is home to over 32,000 students and is recognised as one of the UK’s leading research-focused institutions.
