Essential Rail Upgrade To Impact Services Between Bridgend And St Fagans

Construction News Image
Network Rail (Wales and Borders) is carrying out vital track renewal and maintenance work between Bridgend and St Fagans as part of a programme aimed at ensuring the continued safety and reliability of the rail network.

The works, which involve replacing rails, sleepers, and track ballast, will take place over a series of both daytime and overnight shifts to minimise disruption to passengers. To allow engineers to complete the upgrades safely and efficiently, St Fagans level crossing will be temporarily closed, with diversions in place for both vehicles and pedestrians during the following periods:

• Saturday 21 June, 11pm – Monday 23 June, 6am

• Saturday 5 July, 11pm – Monday 7 July, 6am

Travellers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.

The engineering works will affect both Great Western Railway (GWR) and Transport for Wales (TfW) services:

• GWR trains will be diverted via Barry, adding up to 35 minutes to journey times and skipping stops between Bridgend and Cardiff. Most services will also depart earlier than usual from Swansea, Neath, Port Talbot Parkway, and Bridgend.

• A shuttle train will run between Swansea and Carmarthen.

• TfW services will also be diverted via Barry.

• A rail replacement bus service will operate between Cardiff Central and Bridgend.

Network Rail has thanked passengers for their patience and cooperation during this essential work.
