The forecourt at Salisbury Railway Station has undergone a major transformation, offering a more welcoming, accessible and vibrant gateway to the historic cathedral city for both visitors and residents.

Backed by a £4.5 million investment from the Government's Future High Streets Fund, the redevelopment features new landscaping with trees and shrubs, modern street furniture, and improved wayfinding to help passengers and pedestrians navigate the area with ease.

Sustainable transport has been prioritised throughout the redesign. A new bus interchange and dedicated cycle hub have been introduced to support greener travel choices, while enhanced lighting, both wall-mounted and pole-mounted, ensures a safer, more comfortable environment for all users.


The upgraded forecourt now connects seamlessly with the Fisherton Gateway, a complementary scheme completed last year. Together, the projects create a continuous, visually cohesive pedestrian route from the railway station into the heart of Salisbury.

Cllr Martin Smith, Wiltshire Council's Cabinet Member for Highways, Streetscene and Flooding, said: "This investment from the Future High Streets Fund has provided Salisbury with a fitting entrance to our historic city and a more welcoming first impression.
