Galliford Try's John Ford Named Digital Construction Power Player For 2025

John Ford, Head of BIM and Digital Delivery at Galliford Try, has been recognised as one of Digital Construction Plus’s 2025 Digital Construction Power Players.

The accolade celebrates his significant impact on the industry through his leadership in Building Information Modelling (BIM) and development of key digital construction standards.

Ford is one of just 20 individuals across the UK to receive the title this year, highlighting his pivotal role in shaping the future of digital construction.

Throughout his career, he has worked closely with major organisations including the UK BIM Alliance, BuildingSMART, NIMA, and the Centre for Digital Built Britain. He has been instrumental in driving forward industry guidance, contributing to British Standards Institution (BSI) initiatives such as the update of the design management guide BS 7000-4 and the forthcoming revision of ISO 19650.

In addition to his standards work, Ford sits on BuildingSMART’s COBie (Construction to Operations Building information exchange) certification advisory board, influencing best practice in data management across the sector.

Ford has also developed tools and video resources to support the Department for Education (DfE)'s supply chain in applying complex digital construction standards. These materials aim to simplify the implementation of Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) and ISO 19650 protocols, tackling long-standing challenges around data quality and knowledge gaps in the field.

One of Ford's recent project milestones includes Galliford Try’s delivery of Woodham Academy in County Durham for the DfE. The scheme, which integrated ISO 19650 principles throughout its lifecycle, has been hailed as a model of best practice in digital construction and is shortlisted in the Best Digital Construction Project category at the upcoming Digital Construction Awards.
