Work has officially commenced on a £3.5 million expansion at Finham Park 2, which will bring new classrooms, enhanced sports facilities, and dedicated office space to the growing Coventry school.
Appointed by Coventry City Council, Deeley Construction is leading the project, which includes the construction of an 8,535 sq ft single-storey office building, new outdoor sports facilities, and the conversion of existing office space into classrooms.
The new building, located on the site of a former Job Centre, will house 14 offices and meeting rooms of various sizes for teaching and support staff. This will free up space within the main school building to create five new classrooms, enabling the school to increase its published admission number (PAN) by 30 pupils. The phased growth will allow Finham Park 2 to accommodate 900 students by the 2028–2029 academic year.
This marks the second phase of expansion at the school, bringing the total number of new classrooms created to seven. The scheme also includes the addition of a second multi-use games area for outdoor lessons and sports, as well as new parking spaces with five electric vehicle charging points.
Headteacher Will Keddie expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stated: "We are thrilled that the next phase of building development at Finham Park 2 is underway. As our school grows from a four-form to a six-form entry, we are proud to be playing a key role in easing the pressure on secondary school places across Coventry. This expansion will also allow us to broaden our curriculum, enhance our extra-curricular provision and build towards a more extensive and inclusive Sixth Form offer in the future.
"While we have valued sharing our space with the Finham Park MAT Central Services team, having full access to the building will greatly improve student movement and day-to-day operations. Visitors frequently comment on the calm, purposeful atmosphere of the school and this development will only strengthen that further.
"We are grateful to Coventry City Council for their continued support and are delighted to be working once again with Deeley Construction, whose professionalism in delivering our previous expansion was exceptional."
In line with sustainability goals, the new office building will feature rooftop photovoltaic panels to support renewable energy generation. Deeley Construction is working with local firm Innovaré Offsite to deliver the facility using an advanced structural insulated panel system.
This is the second recent project Deeley Construction has undertaken for Finham Park 2, following a £1.5 million refurbishment in 2023 that created specialist classrooms and a multi-use games pitch, supporting an additional 60 pupils.
