Network Rail has completed a £6.75 million upgrade at Alfreton station, delivering step-free access and a range of improvements to enhance accessibility for passengers.

The project, funded through the Department for Transport’s Access for All scheme and Network Rail's East Midlands route, has seen the station's ageing footbridge renewed and two lifts installed, making the station fully accessible to people with limited mobility, wheelchair users, and those carrying luggage, bikes or pushchairs.

As part of the improvements, a new ramp and staircase have also been added to connect the car park with the station entrance, ensuring step-free access throughout the 1970s-built site. Platform upgrades included full resurfacing, the installation of tactile paving, improved lighting, and new CCTV.

The footbridge refurbishment work was carried out overnight to avoid any disruption to passenger journeys.

Rail Minister Lord Peter Hendy said: "The Government's investment in Alfreton station will deliver lasting benefits for passengers and improve access to the wider transport network.
