Essential renewal works are set to begin this Friday, 30 May, across four key level crossings in Lincolnshire, with Network Rail investing nearly £1 million to enhance safety, reliability, and long-term performance.
The improvement works will affect the Holton le Moor, Brigg, Butterswood, and Little London level crossings. Network Rail is urging passengers and motorists to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys while temporary closures and diversions are in place.
Holton le Moor Level Crossing – A46 Closure
The A46 at Holton le Moor will be closed from 10:30pm on Friday 31 May to 6am on Monday 2 June. Network Rail teams will be on hand to assist pedestrians crossing safely.
An additional overnight closure—rescheduled to minimise disruption—will take place from 9pm on Saturday 7 June to 9am on Sunday 8 June to complete outstanding work.
Brigg Level Crossing – Bigby Road Closure
Bigby Road in Brigg will be closed from 8pm on Monday 2 June until 7am on Thursday 5 June. A temporary signed footpath will be available to maintain pedestrian access throughout the works.
Butterswood and Little London Level Crossings
Both crossings—Butterswood in Goxhill and Little London in Stallingborough—will be closed from 9am on Saturday 31 May until 12:30pm on Sunday 8 June. Traffic management systems will be in place to guide road users safely around the closures.
The upgrade programme will include the replacement of deck units, cill beams (which form the interface between the road surface and the railway), tarmac, and road markings. These improvements will replace ageing infrastructure, reduce future maintenance needs, and improve safety and efficiency for years to come.
