Abacus Contractors Design Services (Abacus CDS) has provided essential engineering expertise in the ongoing redevelopment of St Mary's Lodge, a historic Stoke Newington mansion severely damaged by fire.
As part of the restoration effort, Abacus CDS was tasked with delivering temporary works and façade retention designs to support the complex rebuild. Their work has been critical in enabling the safe excavation of a new basement beneath the structure, while preserving and stabilising the building's original stone façades.
The project is being led by JMS Engineers, who are overseeing the structural and civil design. In close collaboration with JMS, Abacus CDS developed tailored engineering solutions that allow construction to proceed without compromising the architectural heritage of the building.
The temporary works were meticulously designed to protect the lodge’s most delicate elements, ensuring its historic character remains intact. Continuous coordination between the temporary and permanent works teams has ensured structural stability is maintained throughout each phase of the project.
