Social housing provider ClwydAlyn has officially broken ground on a major new affordable housing development at Cae Bothan in Anglesey.
The £10.2 million scheme, delivered in partnership with Isle of Anglesey County Council and the Welsh Government, will provide 54 high-quality, energy-efficient homes on the outskirts of Holyhead. The project was launched at a special ceremony attended by Plaid Cymru MP for Ynys Môn, Llinos Medi, and County Councillor Robin Wyn Williams.
The new development will include a diverse mix of housing: 20 one-bed personal access apartments, 10 two-bed homes, 12 three-bed homes, six four-bed homes, four two-bed bungalows, and two wheelchair-adapted bungalows. Each home will incorporate air source heat pumps, solar-electricity panels, and be orientated to optimise solar gain and natural daylight.
Construction will use Modern Methods of Construction, focusing on natural and sustainable materials sourced from local suppliers to minimise environmental impact.
Helen Williams, Development Project Manager at ClwydAlyn, said: "We're incredibly pleased to see work start at Cae Bothan; and anticipate that these 54 high-quality, modern homes will be completed by Spring 2027."
Councillor Robin Wyn Williams said: "This housing project for 54 new affordable homes in Holyhead forms part of the Isle of Anglesey County Council’s commitment to meeting local housing needs and supporting local people to live in affordable quality homes in their own communities. Our long-term aim is to work in partnership with our Registered Social Housing providers to deliver hundreds of new high quality affordable properties on the Island."
The development is being constructed by North Wales-based K&C Construction, which has a longstanding partnership with ClwydAlyn.
Carl Roberts, Managing Director at K&C Construction, said: "This development is the result of close collaboration with key stakeholders to address local housing needs, while also ensuring the protection and enhancement of the local environment in such a beautiful location. We remain committed to creating sustainable communities that benefit both residents and the wider area."
The project is part-funded by a Welsh Government Social Housing Grant and is expected to be completed by Spring 2027.
