Wythenshawe Park has seen a series of improvements aimed at making it more accessible and enjoyable for all visitors, as part of Manchester City Council's £157,000 Clean, Green, Safer Manchester Investment.
The funding supports a wider initiative to enhance green spaces across the city and has been used to upgrade key features in and around the south Manchester park, including resurfacing pathways, improving cycling infrastructure and increasing seating for visitors of all ages and abilities.
Potholes on two key paths leading from the park's main entrances have been repaired, with resurfacing of the pathway to the tennis courts also planned. These upgrades will make it easier for families with pushchairs, wheelchair users, and cyclists to navigate the park more safely and comfortably.
As Manchester continues to embrace its title as the European Capital of Cycling, improvements to the national cycling route running through Wythenshawe Park will benefit the thousands of cyclists who pass through annually. The resurfaced path will offer a safer, smoother ride and greater connectivity across the city’s growing cycling network.
The Wythenshawe Park Cycle Hub is also set to benefit from the investment, offering a welcoming space for cyclists to meet, take breaks, or plan their routes. The hub further supports Manchester City Council's ambition to promote active lifestyles and community connection through movement.
In a nod to inclusivity and comfort, new seating has also been installed throughout the park and surrounding areas. A total of seven Age Friendly Benches will be placed between Wythenshawe Park and Northenden by spring, offering older residents and visitors convenient places to pause, enjoy the scenery, or have a bite to eat.
An additional sixteen benches are being installed near tram and bus stops en route to the park, including at Wythenshawe Park tram stop and Moor Road tram stop, making public transport connections more comfortable and accessible.
