Robertson Construction North East has commenced work on a major regeneration project in Redcar, marking a continued partnership with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council.
The development, which forms part of the Redcar Town Deal, will deliver a modern family culture and entertainment venue alongside a reimagined central library.
The scheme is a key element in the town's wider revitalisation plans, aimed at boosting economic growth and transforming the town centre into a vibrant, year-round destination for both residents and visitors.
The new multi-purpose facility will integrate cultural, educational, and entertainment features, including indoor family leisure attractions and improved connectivity between the town centre and the seafront. At its heart will be a state-of-the-art library, designed to enhance digital access, support community learning, and foster children's engagement through immersive storytelling spaces and a dedicated makerspace.
An adjacent outdoor events area will further strengthen Redcar’s cultural offering, providing a flexible platform for community gatherings and drawing increased footfall to the high street.
Architecturally, the development is being shaped to reflect Redcar’s coastal identity, with an emphasis on natural light, sea views, and materials that complement the town’s seaside character.
Work began following the demolition of the former Marks & Spencer and Goodwins buildings, and after detailed surveys and coordination with neighbouring property owners.
The project is expected to create local jobs, attract more visitors, and support the town's businesses.
In addition to this new development, Robertson Construction North East is also leading the redevelopment of the Grade II listed Redcar Central Station.
