Caddick Construction has officially completed and handed over a major new extension at Loreto Sixth Form College in Hulme, marking the conclusion of a £10 million project that broke ground just a year ago.
The newly completed three-storey campus building, located on Moss Road West adjacent to the college’s existing Chichester Road South site, adds 24,000 sq ft of new educational space. The expansion will allow the college to increase its capacity by 600 students, addressing the growing demand for post-16 education in Manchester.
The facility includes 20 modern classrooms, a 200-seat lecture theatre, and a dedicated study centre designed to enhance both the learning environment and curriculum delivery. Sustainability has been a core focus of the project, with 39.8% of the building’s electricity needs now met by renewable energy. Key features include air source heat pumps, solar panels, passive ventilation, and night cooling systems. Additional investments in eco-friendly transport infrastructure include electric vehicle charging points and storage for 100 bicycles.
As part of the broader scheme, Caddick also undertook partial refurbishment of the existing college facilities, adding new science laboratories. Outdoor areas were enhanced with a science garden and landscaped reflection spaces to promote wellbeing and connection to green space.
The college remained open and fully operational throughout the construction process. Caddick actively engaged with students pursuing careers in construction, engineering, and project management by offering educational support, including a careers talk aimed at inspiring the next generation of professionals.
In line with its commitment to social value, Caddick also donated £3,000 to local charities including the Greater Manchester Youth Network and Manchester Young Lives. The project provided on-site experience for 11 apprentices and one T-level student, further supporting skills development in the region.
Dave Saville, Regional Managing Director at Caddick Construction North West, said: "A year delivering our project at Loreto Sixth Form College has flown by, but what the team has achieved in this time is exceptional. We've created a brand new, sustainability-focused campus building for education excellence, and while doing so we’ve also worked closely with the college to support their young people. Our intention is always to have a positive impact - throughout our work and beyond - and Loreto Sixth Form College is an excellent example of this commitment."
