Kier To Lead Major Redevelopment Of East Coast College Campus

Kier has been selected by the Department for Education to spearhead a major redevelopment of East Coast College in Great Yarmouth.

The project, which aims to transform the existing campus into a modern, sustainable education hub, is set to begin this summer.

Funded through the Government's £1.5 billion Further Education Capital Transformation Fund, East Coast College is one of 16 institutions across England to benefit from the investment. The redevelopment will see outdated facilities replaced with a state-of-the-art campus designed to meet the evolving educational needs of both young people and adult learners in the region.

The new campus will include a range of specialist training environments, such as a mock hospital ward for aspiring healthcare professionals, a student-run hair and beauty salon, modern sports facilities, training kitchens and restaurants. Additionally, students will have access to digital learning suites and a purpose-built lecture hall.

Aimed at addressing local skills gaps and increasing access to education, the new facilities will enable the college to expand its course offerings for 16 to 19-year-olds and adult learners. The redevelopment also promises to provide modern amenities for staff, students and the wider community.

The campus will operate as a low-carbon, energy-efficient environment, making use of photovoltaic (PV) panels to harness solar power and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The building's envelope has been specially engineered to minimise heat loss in winter and prevent overheating in summer, helping to reduce energy consumption year-round.
