Sustainable Building Services (UK) (SBS) has been appointed to deliver two major energy efficiency programmes across North East Derbyshire.
The contracts, valued at a combined £15 million, will be delivered through the government-backed Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund Wave 3 (WH:SHF) and the new Warm Homes: Local Grant (WH:LG). Over the next three years, the programmes will upgrade hundreds of mixed-tenure homes across the district.
An area-based delivery model will ensure that both social housing and privately-owned homes benefit from a range of energy efficiency improvements. These upgrades are expected to reduce carbon emissions, combat fuel poverty, and enhance residents’ health, comfort, and wellbeing.
A £10.4 million programme in partnership with Rykneld Homes will target nearly 400 social homes, focusing on a fabric-first retrofit approach. Measures will include external wall insulation, cavity wall and loft insulation, solar photovoltaic systems, window and door replacements, and the installation of air source heat pumps. The works will primarily aim to raise the energy performance of homes currently below EPC rating C, building on a previous £21 million Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund Wave 2 scheme delivered by the same partnership.
In addition, a £5.1 million programme funded through the Warm Homes: Local Grant will focus on more than 300 privately owned and rented homes identified as being at high risk of fuel poverty. Many of these properties are among the least energy-efficient in the area.
Both schemes are designed to reduce energy demand and transition homes toward low-carbon heating technologies, aligning with regional climate targets and contributing to national net zero objectives.
The contracts have been awarded through a direct appointment under EEM's Property Improvements and Decarbonisation Works Framework, highlighting Sustainable Building Services' expertise and proven track record in delivering PAS-compliant large-scale retrofit projects.
