Work is now underway at Hither Green station as BAM begins a significant upgrade to improve accessibility for thousands of passengers who use the busy London station every day.

Commissioned by Network Rail and the South East Alliance, the £28 million project is funded through the Department for Transport's Access for All programme. The improvements aim to make travel quicker, easier and more inclusive for everyone.

Once complete, the transformation will deliver step-free access across all six platforms via a brand-new footbridge, four 16-person lifts, and new staircases. The scheme also includes two new fully accessible entrances on Fernbrook Road and Springbank Road, both of which will connect directly to the new footbridge.

The changes will eliminate the need for passengers with accessibility requirements to travel through central London to make basic train connections, significantly reducing journey times and reliance on alternative transport options such as taxis or buses.
