Jessica Morden MP Visits Persimmon's Springfield Meadows Site In Llanwern

Jessica Morden MP, Chair of the Parliamentary Labour Party and Member of Parliament for Newport East, recently visited Persimmon Homes East Wales' Springfield Meadows development, part of the £1 billion Glan Llyn regeneration project.

The current phase of the scheme will deliver 178 new homes, with 10% designated as affordable housing under the Section 106 agreement, and a further 8.5% set to be transferred to a housing association, directly supporting local housing needs and contributing to community growth.

Reflecting strong demand from first-time buyers and local families, over half of the buyers at the development to date have utilised the Help to Buy Wales scheme.

During her visit, Jessica Morden toured the site and held discussions with Persimmon representatives about the benefits of Help to Buy Wales, the UK Government’s housing priorities, and the wider role of the housebuilding industry in supporting national economic objectives.

The visit follows a recent event in January where Jessica, alongside Newport City Council Leader Cllr Dimitri Batrouni and Newport East MS John Griffiths, joined Persimmon to celebrate a Community Champions donation to Newport Cricket Club.

Lee Hawker, Managing Director of Persimmon Homes East Wales, said: "Persimmon prides itself on working closely with the communities in which we build and their representatives, so we were delighted to welcome Jessica Morden MP to Springfield Meadows.

"This was an invaluable opportunity for both parties to talk about how we can work together to meet mutual goals in the public interest, especially when we know the social and economic benefits of building plenty of high-quality homes.

"We thank Jessica for visiting and hearing about our future plans across Newport and the East Wales region."
