Regeneration Underway At Former Ewenny Road Site

A regeneration scheme has officially begun at the disused Ewenny Road Industrial Estate, as Clowes Developments, in partnership with Bridgend County Borough Council, commences essential enabling works on the site.

The milestone marks the first phase in transforming the brownfield site, which has remained dormant for over a decade.

Supported by grant funding from the Cardiff Capital Region, Clowes Developments is working to prepare the site for future development. Specialist contractor Sirius Remediation Ltd has been appointed to carry out initial remediation works, including earthworks, decommissioning and diverting disused utilities, and the safe treatment of historic mine workings.

With planning permission already secured, the preparatory phase lays the groundwork for a major mixed-use regeneration project. The proposed development includes up to 200 new homes, high-quality public open spaces, modern retail units, and an enterprise and employability hub aimed at boosting the local economy.

Bridgend County Borough Council will also deliver a new transport interchange and additional employment facilities as part of the wider vision for the site, improving connectivity and access to work and training opportunities across the region.

Rob Hopkinson, Technical Associate Director at Clowes Developments, said: "We are extremely pleased that this major regeneration project has finally commenced which will bring much needed new homes and amenities to the area. The site has some challenging constraints, and it has been a real team effort to get to this point. It has been refreshing to work with Cardiff Capital Region and Bridgend County Borough Council who have been so focused on delivering the project."
