United Living Group has announced that its subsidiary, United Living Energy Limited, part of the United Living Infrastructure Services (ULIS) division, has been appointed by Liverpool Bay CCS Limited (LBCCS), a subsidiary of global energy-tech company Eni, as one of the main contractors for a major carbon capture project in the UK.
The £250 million contract will see ULIS deliver essential CO₂ transportation and storage infrastructure over a three-year period.
The work is a key component of the HyNet North West initiative, a flagship low-carbon industrial project designed to support the UK's transition to net zero by 2050. The HyNet CO₂ pipeline will transport carbon emissions captured from industrial sites across the North West of England and North Wales to permanent offshore storage in depleted gas reservoirs beneath Liverpool Bay.
ULIS has been awarded responsibility for delivering the pipeline through an Engineering, Procurement, Installation, and Commissioning (EPIC) contract. The project includes the construction of over 34 km of new pipeline infrastructure, originating in Ince, Cheshire, and connecting with 24 km of existing pipeline infrastructure ending at Point of Ayr in North Wales.
In March 2024, LBCCS secured a Development Consent Order (DCO) from the UK Government’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, enabling construction, operation, and maintenance of the infrastructure to begin.
The pipeline infrastructure will initially transport up to 4.5 million tonnes of CO₂ annually, with capacity expected to increase to 10 million tonnes per year by the 2030s.
