Hattersley Regeneration Gathers Pace With New Homes, Jobs And Community Facilities

Construction News Image
Hattersley's ongoing transformation continues to gather momentum, with the past year bringing major developments in housing, employment, public space improvements, and community services.

The regeneration is being delivered through a partnership between Tameside Council, Onward Homes, and Homes England, supported by significant public and private investment.

Over the last 12 months, the area has seen the completion of several key projects that have improved living conditions and opportunities for residents. These include the creation of high-quality homes, youth engagement initiatives, and expanded support for skills development and employment.

A dedicated Work and Skills coach, active in Hattersley for the past three years, has helped hundreds of residents take steps towards employment. Thirty-eight individuals have moved into jobs, 190 have undertaken training, 137 have taken up volunteering roles, and 786 have begun their journey towards work. Funding for this vital service has now been extended until March 2026.

Investment in the local environment has also continued, with £4 million being channelled into public realm infrastructure. Two new playgrounds at Porlock Avenue have brought the total number of new play areas in Hattersley to four. Further works, including a new Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) and the opening of the green space at Waterside Clough, are due to begin in summer 2025 and be completed by year-end. Additional upgrades to gateways and parking facilities are also in the pipeline.

Hattersley's district centre is entering its final phase of regeneration. Developer Maple Grove, in collaboration with Onward Homes, is set to deliver a new Aldi discount supermarket, a Costa drive-through, and multiple trade counter units. Planning permission was granted in April 2024, with construction set to begin next month and completion targeted for June 2026, followed by fit-out by retailers.
