Rail services between Hereford and Shrewsbury are facing significant disruption following the collapse of an underground culvert, forcing the closure of the line in both directions.

Emergency engineering works are underway to ensure the safety of the railway.

Network Rail's engineering teams are currently on-site, and initial assessments suggest that repairs will continue until at least Tuesday, 29 April. However, this timeline may be adjusted once further excavations are completed and the full extent of the damage beneath the tracks is assessed.

In the meantime, replacement bus services have been put in place and will remain operational throughout the disruption.

Colin Lea, Planning and Performance Director at Transport for Wales, commented: "We've had to close a section of the railway between Hereford and Shrewsbury on the Marches Line due to infrastructure issues. Network Rail teams are now on-site and working on fixing the problem.

"Rail replacement buses are available, but services will be disrupted. Please check before you travel. Thanks for your patience."
