Wakefield-based Henley Stone Specialists has been appointed to deliver Glass Reinforced Concrete (GRC) elements for the first phase of 'Our Cultural Heart', Kirklees Council’s flagship project aimed at revitalising Huddersfield town centre.
Part of the Henley Construction Management Group, Henley Stone Specialists is recognised nationally for its work in complex architectural façades across both new-build and regeneration projects. Now, the company brings its expertise home to West Yorkshire, contributing to a transformative scheme with strong local importance.
The initial phase of the redevelopment, being led by BAM Construction, will see the iconic 1970s market building reimagined as a contemporary food hall and community library, anchored by a striking new public square. The use of GRC—chosen for its durability, fire resistance, and design flexibility—will play a vital role in bridging Huddersfield’s architectural heritage with its vision for a modern, vibrant town centre.
Henley Stone Specialists will manage the complete GRC package, from design coordination to manufacture, logistics, and installation. The company’s involvement marks a significant step in a high-profile regeneration effort, blending national construction expertise with a commitment to local growth.
