Sandwell Residents Offered Group-Buying Scheme For Solar Panels And Battery Storage

Residents in Sandwell are being encouraged to take part in a group-buying scheme that makes switching to renewable energy more affordable and accessible.

The Solar Together initiative, backed by Sandwell Council and neighbouring local authorities, enables homeowners to invest in solar panels, battery storage, and EV charge points through a collective purchasing model.

Run in partnership with iChoosr, a specialist in sustainable energy transitions, the scheme aims to simplify the switch to solar energy while offering competitive prices through a reverse auction process involving approved UK suppliers. Households already using solar panels can also benefit from the scheme by retrofitting battery storage to maximise energy efficiency.

Registration is free and carries no obligation. Homeowners have until Friday 6 June 2025 to register their interest and receive a personalised, cost-effective offer based on their energy needs.

Once registered, homeowners will receive a personal recommendation after the auction. If they choose to proceed, a technical survey will be arranged to finalise the details before installation. Throughout the process, residents will have access to support via telephone and email helpdesks, as well as information sessions.

The initiative is part of a broader regional collaboration that includes Birmingham City Council, Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council, and Solihull Council, working together to make clean energy adoption more cost-effective.

Marie-Louise Abretti, Solar Together UK Business Manager, said: "With energy prices continuing to fluctuate, residents of the West Midlands are looking for opportunities to reduce their carbon emissions, save on energy bills, and increase their independence from the grid. The Solar Together group-buying scheme offers a straightforward way to make an informed decision and to access a competitive offer from a trusted, vetted provider."
