Gleeds Named Project Manager To Redevelop Airedale General Hospital

Gleeds has been named project manager for the billion-pound redevelopment of Airedale General Hospital in Keighley, West Yorkshire on behalf of Airedale NHS Foundation Trust.

The award-winning trust employs over 3,000 people and provides acute, elective, specialist and community care for a population of over 200,000 across Yorkshire and East Lancashire. Gleeds will be responsible for delivering a new state-of-the-art facility and associated amenities that will meet evolving patient needs under the government’s New Hospital Programme (NHP).

The consultancy will work closely with the team from the Trust, alongside representatives for the NHP, an architect led design team and contractors to design and construct a modern, more sustainable hospital on the existing site while maintaining the highest standards of care throughout. The new build will replace the current hospital which was constructed of Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC), maximising the use of digital technologies, modern methods of construction, and design for manufacture and assembly.

Alastair Stewart, Programme Director for Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, said: "We are delighted to have Gleeds onboard as our project manager partner for our Securing the Future programme. Securing the Future represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to build a new state-of-the-art Airedale General Hospital that our patients, staff and community deserve."

Commenting on the appointment, Andrew McNulty, Gleeds' UK Head of Healthcare, added: "Gleeds has extensive experience in delivering complex health projects and we have seen first-hand the enormously positive impact they can have on communities. Having overseen the delivery of similar large-scale projects across the UK in recent years, we’re looking forward to sharing best practice and supporting our client and their surrounding community throughout this project."
