Morgan Sindall Construction has marked the official opening of a new Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) teaching block and a specialist hydrotherapy pool at Philip Southcote School in Addlestone, in a celebration attended by students, families and local officials.
The event brought together the Morgan Sindall project team, Surrey County Council (SCC) representatives, school staff, and pupils' families. Students proudly gave tours of their brand-new classrooms, showcasing the upgraded facilities designed to support their unique learning needs.
Appointed by Surrey County Council, Morgan Sindall delivered the £11.1 million project through the Southern Construction Framework’s fifth generation (SCF5). The project includes new classrooms, an ICT suite, improved provisions for hearing-impaired students, and the 12 x 6m² hydrotherapy pool. In total, 27 new school places have been created, with upgraded spaces for an additional 24 pupils.
Deputy Mayor of Runnymede, Margaret Harnden, officially opened the new facilities by cutting a white ribbon at the event.
Morgan Sindall collaborated with Pellings, who provided the designs for the new teaching block, while Morgan Sindall's in-house design team led on the hydrotherapy pool. The project is the first completed under SCF5, a public sector framework aimed at delivering value and project certainty across education, healthcare, and local authority projects.
The new hydrotherapy pool is equipped with state-of-the-art features, including hydromassage areas, and is aligned with SCC’s net zero goals. Using cutting-edge technology, including air source heat pumps and photovoltaic panels, the pool is expected to deliver up to 45% carbon reduction.
Local impact was also a focus throughout the build. Morgan Sindall employed local operatives from within a 20-mile radius and hosted 16 work placements, offering valuable hands-on experience to aspiring construction professionals.
Paul Holden, Senior Preconstruction Manager for Morgan Sindall Construction in the Southern Home Counties, said: "It's fantastic to see the completion of the SEND teaching block and hydrotherapy pool at Philip Southcote School, where our work in collaboration with Surrey County Council, Pellings, and many others will help to support the next generation of pupils with additional needs and disabilities. These vibrant, high-quality educational environments signify a key investment in the future of Addlestone and the wider Surrey community, meeting the needs of local families.
"The whole team is exceptionally proud of this state-of-the-art school, and we can't wait to see the students settle in and start learning through these specialist facilities."
