Sempra Homes, the housing subsidiary of Basildon Council, is preparing to launch its latest 100% affordable housing development at Bowers Close on London Road in Pitsea, Essex.
The new development will deliver 31 high-quality homes aimed at increasing access to affordable housing for local residents.
The scheme will comprise 23 Shared Ownership homes and 8 affordable rental properties, all allocated to council tenants. The Shared Ownership properties will prioritise veterans, key workers, and existing borough residents seeking to take their first step onto the property ladder.
Melanie Keys, Services Manager at Sempra Homes, said: "Bowers Close will bring much-needed affordable homes to local people, helping them achieve homeownership and long-term housing stability. By supporting borough residents, key workers and veterans, we are ensuring that those who contribute to our communities have a fair opportunity to own their own home supporting Basildon Council’s Basildon Residents First approach. The development is set to launch in May, with the first home ready for occupation in the Summer."
Designed with traditional architecture, the homes will be built using a Fabric First Approach to maximise energy efficiency. All properties will meet National Space Standards and adhere to Secured by Design principles. The development will also include soft landscaping and a public green space to complement the area's suburban character and create a peaceful living environment.
Located on London Road, Bowers Close offers strong transport connections, with convenient pedestrian, cycling, and public transport access to local amenities and broader networks.
The project is supported by £436,000 in funding from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government’s Brownfield Land Release Fund 2, delivered by the One Public Estate Programme. An additional £948,000 has been secured through Homes England’s Affordable Housing Programme to support the delivery of the Shared Ownership homes. These will be developed alongside the affordable rental homes, which will be allocated in line with Basildon Council’s Housing Allocation Policy.
