Morgan Sindall Infrastructure Expands Data Academy

Morgan Sindall Infrastructure has announced the expansion of its Digital and Data Academy in partnership with Multiverse, following the success of its latest cohort of graduating apprentices.

The move reinforces the company's commitment to upskilling its workforce and harnessing the power of data to drive smarter, more efficient decision-making across the business. With the upcoming intake, a total of 80 employees will have enrolled in digital and data training programmes delivered by Multiverse.

Since its inception, the academy has had a significant impact across Morgan Sindall Infrastructure. The most recent group of apprentices saw a 14% increase in individual efficiency during the programme - saving the business over 7,200 hours per year. Improved data capabilities have helped tackle challenges such as weather-related project delays, workplace safety incidents, and quality assurance, leading to measurable improvements in business outcomes. 86% of the most recent cohort achieved a distinction upon completing the programme.

Apprentice James Macdonald, developed skills in Python, SQL, and PowerBI during his time on the programme. He said: "I've already benefited from learning how to conduct hypothesis tests and build regression models in Python. I've been able to apply this in my work on our carbon calculation tool, to predict the carbon footprint of forthcoming projects, which will be really valuable. And elsewhere I've already seen value in data skills reducing time spent gathering information for reporting dashboards."

The initiative comes amid industry-wide challenges in data efficiency. According to Multiverse’s 2024 Skills Intelligence Report, 29% of time spent working with data in the construction sector is currently unproductive. By continuing to invest in digital training, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure aims to streamline processes, automate tasks, and boost overall productivity.

Sarah Reid, Managing Director for Water & Highways at Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, added: "The Digital and Data Academy is part of our ongoing commitment to developing and protecting our people, ensuring they have the right tools and knowledge to thrive in a fast-paced industry. Having the skills to harness data effectively will not only improve efficiency across the business but also create opportunities for personal and professional growth."
