Work Begins On 200 Home Community In Hengrove

Construction has officially begun on The Fosseway, a transformative housing development set to bring 200 new sustainable homes to brownfield land off New Fosseway Road in Hengrove.

The project, led by Goram Homes in partnership with home builder Vistry Group, will revitalise the former school site, which has stood empty for over a decade. The development aims to create an intergenerational community, offering a range of one and two-bedroom apartments as well as two, three, and four-bedroom houses, all designed to promote energy-efficient living.

Sustainability is at the heart of The Fosseway, with homes featuring solar panels, air source heat pumps, and electric vehicle charging points to reduce environmental impact.

The project will be delivered in two phases:

Phase One: 130 homes, with half designated as affordable housing for social rent and shared ownership, and the remainder sold on the open market.

Phase Two: A 70-home extra care facility designed for older residents who require support while maintaining independence. This phase will be delivered in partnership with a Registered Provider, with formal plans expected in the coming months.

Cllr Barry Parsons, Chair of Bristol City Council's Homes and Housing Delivery Committee, said: "Goram Homes is creating a thriving new community here, with a fantastic balance of homes to suit the city’s needs. Good housing is fundamental to living a happy, healthy and prosperous life, but it's more than just bricks and mortar. This development will provide nature-rich spaces to relax and play, with shared facilities to bring multiple generations together.

"The number of homes being built for social rent and shared ownership is critical too, and highlights Goram Homes' key role in supporting the city's plans to continue to deliver much needed affordable housing and realise our vision for Bristol."
