McLaren Construction Midlands and North has officially broken ground on a new Distribution Centre for leading retailer TJ Morris Ltd at the Unity Yorkshire development in Doncaster.
The state-of-the-art facility will be a key driver of industrial growth in the region, creating 1,000 new jobs and bolstering economic opportunities in Doncaster and beyond.
Unity Yorkshire is a landmark mixed-use regeneration project, designed to transform the area into a thriving business and employment hub. Situated directly off Junction 5 of the M18/M180 motorway interchange, the development benefits from exceptional transport links and infrastructure. This strategic location enables occupiers like TJ Morris to optimize their supply chain operations and enhance customer service across the country.
Spanning approximately 1 million sq. ft at Unity Connect, the new facility will feature a fully automated distribution hub, including a 43-metre-high bay and extensive low bay and cold storage areas, supporting TJ Morris’ continued expansion.
The groundbreaking ceremony marks a significant milestone in the retailer’s national distribution growth. Attended by Ros Jones, Mayor of Doncaster, alongside representatives from City of Doncaster Council, Business Doncaster, Waystone Hargreaves Land, Atkins Realis, TJ Morris’ logistics and automation team, and McLaren Construction Midlands and North, the event underscored a collective commitment to driving economic investment in the region.
Construction is set to advance swiftly, with completion anticipated by October 2026. Upon handover, Witron will install cutting-edge automated picking equipment, ensuring the facility is fully operational to service over 300 Home Bargains stores by mid-2028.
