Gentoo has completed the replacement of the district heating system in Albany and Oxclose.

Working with partners from Equans, over 949 properties across Washington have benefited from the installation of a new gas combi boiler following the decommission of the old heating system.

New energy efficient combi-boilers have been installed for Gentoo customers, leaseholders and freeholders who were previously connected to the district heating system. The new boilers are highly efficient, compact and easy for customers to control the heating in their home.

Following feedback from our customers and residents in Washington, we made the decision to replace the district heating system due to problems with the aging boiler houses and as part of our investment into the energy efficiency of customers’ homes.

Working with partners from Scottish Power and Greener Energy Solutions, new gas meters were fitted in customer’s and resident's homes to allow the new boilers to be installed.

Following the completion of the new boiler installations, work has begun to decommission all 33 redundant boiler houses throughout Washington and is expected to be complete by summer 2025.
