The second phase of the ambitious East Wood housing development at Beacon Park in Bradwell has officially kicked off with a ground-breaking ceremony.
The project, led by Great Yarmouth Borough Council’s housing company, Equinox Enterprises, will deliver 61 new homes, with building work managed by Abode Construction.
The development will feature a diverse mix of high-quality, energy-efficient properties, including six two-bed, 20 three-bed semi-detached homes, three detached three-bed homes, seven four-bed homes, and four five-bed homes. Of these, six homes will be available for affordable rent, and one will be for shared ownership.
The first homes are set for completion in November 2025, and all properties are expected to be finished by December 2026. The homes will be marketed for sale by estate agents WH Brown.
The scheme aligns with one of the council’s key priorities: to provide an attractive range of quality housing that meets the needs of both current and future residents in the borough.
Abode Construction was chosen for the project due to its extensive experience in working with local authorities to create sustainable, vibrant communities. The company is based in Norfolk and Suffolk and has a strong track record of delivering high-specification homes.
Councillor Daniel Candon, chairman of Equinox Enterprises and Great Yarmouth Borough Council's portfolio holder for Economic Development and Growth, said: "We want to design and build quality housing in the borough to support the growing needs of our residents.
"We are delighted to be working with Abode Construction. It has a proven track record of delivering high-specification homes and are already making significant progress on the project.
"We are grateful to have the support of a fantastic professional team, including REAL Consulting, Ingleton Wood, DGL Quality Management, and Rossi Long Consulting, who – alongside Abode – have worked incredibly hard to ensure planning deadlines were met.
"Equinox has big plans for the future, and we hope to continue to build on the successes here at East Wood and maintain a key position in the market as developers of quality."
The homes at East Wood will offer more spacious living and larger gardens compared to other new builds in the area. Equinox Enterprises has also taken a 'fabric first' approach to enhance the energy efficiency of the homes. All properties will be 'A' rated, ensuring they are sustainable, comfortable, and energy-efficient, which will also help reduce living costs for residents.
Grant Keys, Managing Director of Abode Construction, said: "We are delighted to be building these new homes on behalf of Equinox Enterprises and are excited about some of the innovative designs and sustainability elements these new properties will offer.
"Revitalising communities through the delivery of high-quality schemes is the mortar that holds us together at Abode, and these new homes all have a bespoke design and will be an excellent new addition for the borough of Great Yarmouth."
