Work to transform Sherburn-in-Elmet's town centre began this week, with a series of planned upgrades aimed at improving facilities and enhancing the area’s appeal for residents, visitors, and local businesses.
The project focuses on the east side of Low Street, where improvements will be made to local infrastructure and the overall aesthetic of the area. The upgrades include replacing damaged cobblestones, discoloured pavements, and blocked gullies. In addition, new parking bays will be created, along with public benches, updated signage, and a new town centre map.
The improvements are being funded as part of a £800,000 package aimed at rejuvenating Sherburn-in-Elmet's town centre. The project is expected to take up to six months to complete, with work carried out in phases to minimise disruption for residents, visitors, and businesses. The focus will be on the stretch of Low Street between The Swan pub and C & G Starkey Family Butchers.
The project has been financed in part by the Government's UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), which is administered by North Yorkshire County Council.
The project has also received support from Sherburn-in-Elmet Town Council and local councillor Bob Packham, who represents the Sherburn-in-Elmet division.
