Phase two of the East Wood housing development at Beacon Park in Bradwell has officially launched with a ground-breaking ceremony.
The event marks a significant milestone in the delivery of 61 new homes, which will be developed by Great Yarmouth Borough Council's housing company, Equinox Enterprises, with construction work being carried out by Abode Construction.
The development will offer a mix of high-quality, energy-efficient homes, including six two-bedroom, 20 three-bedroom semi-detached, three three-bedroom detached, seven four-bedroom, and four five-bedroom properties. Of these, six homes will be available for affordable rent and one for shared ownership.
The first homes are expected to be completed by November 2024, with all of the properties set to be finished by December 2026. The homes will be marketed for sale via estate agents WH Brown.
This project is aligned with one of the council's core priorities: to provide a mix of good-quality housing that is suitable for current and future needs in the borough. The East Wood development is expected to contribute significantly to addressing the area's housing demand.
Abode Construction, a Norfolk and Suffolk-based company, was selected for the project due to its extensive experience working with local authorities to deliver vibrant, sustainable communities.
Councillor Daniel Candon, chairman of Equinox Enterprises and Great Yarmouth Borough Council's portfolio holder for Economic Development and Growth, said: "We want to design and build quality housing in the borough to support the growing needs of our residents.
"We are delighted to be working with Abode Construction. It has a proven track record of delivering high-specification homes and are already making significant progress on the project.
"We are grateful to have the support of a fantastic professional team, including REAL Consulting, Ingleton Wood, DGL Quality Management, and Rossi Long Consulting, who—alongside Abode—have worked incredibly hard to ensure planning deadlines were met.
"Equinox has big plans for the future, and we hope to continue to build on the successes here at East Wood and maintain a key position in the market as developers of quality."
The homes at East Wood will offer more space and larger gardens compared to other new builds in the area. Equinox Enterprises is also prioritising sustainability with a 'fabric first' approach to maximise energy efficiency. All homes will be 'A' rated for energy performance, ensuring they are not only sustainable but also promote comfort and health while reducing energy costs for residents.
Grant Keys, Managing Director of Abode Construction, commented: "We are delighted to be building these new homes on behalf of Equinox Enterprises and are excited about some of the innovative designs and sustainability elements these new properties will offer.
"Revitalising communities through the delivery of high-quality schemes is the mortar that holds us together at Abode, and these new homes all have a bespoke design and will be an excellent new addition for the borough of Great Yarmouth."
