A £5.4 million investment to improve accessibility at Tooting station in south-west London has been completed, with the station's two new lifts now fully operational.

Work on the lifts, which began in spring 2023, was finished in January, and after final testing, the lifts have opened to the public, providing step-free access to all platforms from the main entrance.

The new lifts are part of a broader effort to enhance the station's accessibility and security. In addition to the lifts, the project team installed new CCTV cameras throughout the station and widened footways to improve the flow of pedestrians.

Thameslink has also invested £57,000 in a wide ticket gate designed for wheelchair users, people with pushchairs, or those carrying luggage. Further improvements include the ongoing refurbishment of the station’s front entrance and ticket hall, which will feature a new ceiling and enhanced lighting once complete.

In addition to the station upgrades, Network Rail’s contractors have revitalized a small patch of land near the station with new planting, providing a green space for local residents to enjoy.

Despite the scale of the work, the station has remained open throughout the construction period, ensuring minimal disruption to passengers.
