Vistry Group was proud to host Chancellor Rachel Reeves at its Fairham development in Nottinghamshire this week, where she gained an in-depth look at the progress of one of the region’s most ambitious housing projects.

The visit provided an opportunity to discuss the current challenges within the housing sector and highlight the strides being made at the site.

Accompanied by Alison Crofton, Chief Property Officer at Homes England, and Tom Clowes, Managing Director at Clowes Development, Chancellor Reeves was shown around the Alvaredus site in Fairham by Phil McHugh, Divisional Operations Director at Vistry. The group discussed Vistry's innovative tenure split and partnership models, modern construction methods (MMC), and the rapid pace at which the development is moving forward.

The discussions centreed on the key role of Homes England in supporting the project, and how Vistry's collaboration with the agency is helping to meet national housing delivery targets. The Chancellor also explored various government measures aimed at boosting housing productivity, as well as the obstacles currently facing the industry, such as planning delays, resource shortages, and the financial challenges confronting housing associations.

After the briefing, Chancellor Reeves took part in a site tour, where she visited first- and second-fix plots alongside McHugh. The visit, attended by national media, also touched on important industry topics, including skills shortages, apprenticeships, and government initiatives for first-time buyers.

Chancellor Reeves continued her engagement by meeting with key members of the Vistry team, including Regional Managing Director Lee Parry, as well as on-site contractors. This provided further insight into the day-to-day operations and challenges of the project.
