Bargate Homes Secures Planning Approval For 155 New Homes In Hordle

Bargate Homes has received a resolution to grant planning permission from New Forest District Council (NFDC) for a hybrid application to deliver up to 155 energy-efficient homes in the historic village of Hordle, Hampshire. The development, situated between the Solent Coast and the New Forest National Park, is set to address the growing demand for housing in the area.

Located on a 12.21-hectare (30-acre) site on Hordle Lane, the land has been earmarked for residential development in the NFDC Local Plan. The project aims to help reduce the current backlog of 1,876 households on the local housing waiting list while supporting the Council's target for new homes.

With this planning milestone secured, Bargate Homes is now preparing a Reserved Matters application for the housing element of the scheme. The development will feature a range of homes, from one-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom houses, all designed to meet high energy efficiency standards and achieve excellent EPC ratings.

In line with its commitment to affordable housing, 40% of the homes will be made available for shared ownership, affordable rent, and social rent. This will be achieved in partnership with VIVID, the housing association that owns Bargate Homes.

Additionally, the development will designate over half of the land as Public Open Space (POS) and Alternative Natural Recreational Greenspace (ANRG). The plans include play areas, 15 full-size allotments, maintained woodland, and a network of new gravel paths, all enhanced with native planting. These green spaces will serve both the new residents and the existing community, providing valuable recreational opportunities and improving local biodiversity.
