Salford City Council Approves Plans For 25 Homes

Construction News Image

Salford City Council has approved plans for the construction of 25 affordable homes across two locations in the city, aimed at providing much-needed supported accommodation for young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

The first development, located on Bridgewater Street in Little Hulton, will consist of three two-bedroom and four three-bedroom family houses, designed with a traditional terrace layout. The homes will feature off-street parking and secure rear gardens. In addition, the site will include eight one-bedroom apartments specifically for young people aged 18 to 25 who are, or at risk of becoming homeless.

The new affordable homes will be owned and managed by Dérive, Salford City Council's wholly-owned housing company, which will also oversee the second development.

The second development, situated on Tully Street South in Higher Broughton, will provide ten self-contained apartments for young people in similar circumstances. Each apartment will feature single-occupancy bedrooms, a bathroom, and a combined living, kitchen, and dining area, along with essential storage spaces.

Both developments will be delivered under the Government's Single Homelessness Accommodation Programme (SHAP), which aims to tackle homelessness and rough sleeping across the UK.

The new homes are part of Salford City Council's ongoing commitment to increasing the availability of good-quality, affordable housing for people at risk of or currently experiencing homelessness. With both projects managed by Dérive, the initiative aims to ensure that vulnerable young people have access to safe and secure accommodation, alongside the support they need to rebuild their lives.

The approval of these plans marks a significant step in addressing homelessness in Salford, providing much-needed housing options for young people in the community.
