£65m Contract Awarded For New Accommodation At RAF Digby

The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) has awarded a £65 million contract for the construction of new Single Living Accommodation (SLA) at RAF Digby in Lincolnshire.

RAF Digby, the RAF's oldest station, founded in 1918 and now operated by Strategic Command, will see the development of four new accommodation blocks for junior ranks. The contract has been awarded to construction firm Galliford Try, with Arcadis providing technical support.

Each new block will feature 69 single ensuite rooms, along with essential amenities including kitchenettes, drying rooms, laundry facilities, and social spaces to enhance the living experience for personnel.

The buildings are designed with a focus on sustainability, aligning with the Ministry of Defence’s and the government’s commitment to achieving net zero. Key environmental features include solar panels, air source heat pumps for heating, and energy-efficient technologies throughout. These include:

• A system to recover heat from wastewater in the showers

• Temperature-controlled heating zones

• LED energy-efficient lighting

• Electric car charging points

In addition to the accommodation blocks, the project also includes new car parking, street lighting, and landscaped communal outdoor areas.

Construction is expected to start in March.
